NEWHAM COMMUNITY ALCOHOL DETOXIFICATION SERVICE
The Community Alcohol Detoxification Service can help people come off alcohol using medication to manage withdrawals. Generally, a planned detoxification takes 5-8 days. During this time, people are supported by the Community Detox Team(except on weekends) to monitor progress. This is done on an ambulatory basis whereby clients come in to DASL offices or under special circumstances visiting clients at home. They will also discuss future options and support to help maintain abstinence.
WHAT DO WE OFFER?
- An initial assessment to discuss if home detoxification is the best option, if not, then we will inform you of other options.
- We will contact your GP to discuss suitability of community detoxification and prescription of medication for detox regime in accordance with the DASL detox protocol. We will also liaise with your GP during the detox period and on completion. We will request a Liver Function Test prior to detox.
- In Newham, for clients who do not have a GP, DASL will approach one of the Local Enhanced Service GPs to prescribe for the alcohol detox treatment.
- We also offer a daily monitoring of the detox treatment during the detox programme, discuss any concerns, and provide advice and support.
- Information on and access to follow-up support/other services, which might be useful after detox.
- Access to complementary therapies during detox.
- Follow up Counselling or Structured Day Programme at DASL if appropriate.
