Volunteers
Do you have Financial experience and would you be prepared
to offer us some time using this skill on DASL’s Executive
Committee?
The Executive Committee is the governing body of Drug & Alcohol
Service for London and has the ultimate legal responsibility for
the organisation. Drug & Alcohol Service for London is a charity
and a limited company. As a charity DASL works for public benefit.
The organisation does not operate for private gain and in return
is treated favourably for taxation but faces restrictions on its
political and trading activities. As a company, the organisation
is limited by guarantee and a non-profit making body.
Our previous treasurer occupied the position for 7 years and
has now stood down. We are looking for someone to fill this vacancy
who may come from an accounting background - perhaps someone who
currently if working as a Finance Director/manager of another
voluntary organisation and would enjoy the opportunity to broaden
their experience in another charity. Training and information
is provided and you can come along an observer to one of the meetings
before making a decision to put your name forward.
As a Trustee you would need to:-
• Work with your fellow trustees to take full responsibility
for the overall management, future strategy and financial viability
of DASL, delegating this on a day-to-day level to the Chief Executive
and staff.
• Have an understanding of the financing of voluntary organisations.
• Be able to attend bi-monthly and other occasional meetings.
As a Treasurer you would also need to:
All trustees are responsible collectively but as a Treasurer,
we would ask that:
• You keep all the trustees properly informed about the
state of the organisation’s finances.
• Ensure financial reports to trustees are properly discussed
and comprehensible to everyone.
• Ensure financial reports to outside bodies are provided
in the proper form and at the proper time.
• Ensure auditors are appointed and report on DASL’s
accounts at the annual AGM.
• Work with the Finance Director to ensure effective and
strategic financial planning.
In return you would gain:-
• Valuable skills in Committee work
• An opportunity to learn more about how charities work
• A sense of having contributed to the Community
